SLOANS LAKE MODERN STAIR

The feature stair at the Sloans Lake Residence is truly an element of sculpture that weaves the exterior and interior multi-floor architecture together. Though designed from conception by Neal Evers, AIA; the completed stair was nothing short of a collaborative effort. Metal artisans Duncan Parks and Rob Brindley, in collaboration w/ fabricators from Old Greenwich builders and Modern Craftsman, contributed critical fabrication method, finish and structural concepts that led to the resulting form. Beyond achieving a sculptural steel fabrication, the stair must also meet building code compliance. Thus railings, guardrails and materials followed just behind the sculptural design under the direction of management of Cress Carter of Old Greenwich Builders.

This page is dedicated to the images of process work that unveil this stair for the feat of engineering, collaboration and craft that it is. Lastly and certainly worthy of mention, an architectural vision like this is nothing without the affirmation and backing of a client whose relentless pursuit of excellence in design which ultimately led to the success of the completed work.

The stair was awarded the Luxe Red Design Award and the Colorado Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Award of Distinction in 2020.
